In the beauty industry, we often talk about “self-made” success, but Neill Educator Brandie Devillier doesn’t believe in that myth. Instead, she views her career as a “mosaic of invisible contributions” from family, friends, and icons. For Brandie, true professional growth for hairstylists isn’t just about mastering a technique; it’s about the people who believe in you when you don’t believe in yourself.

Every journey toward professional growth for hairstylists begins with a foundation of unwavering belief. For Brandie, that was her mother, Angela Deville. While the industry can be demanding, her mother provided the steady encouragement needed to keep her artistic fire burning.
“My mom has always supported every dream, every goal, and every idea of mine. She has always reminded me of my creativity and how that holds power.”

While her mother built her confidence, a pivotal moment in 2005 defined her professional trajectory. While a student at Aveda Arts & Sciences Institute Lafayette, Brandie watched Global Artistic Director @antoinettebeenders command the stage. That moment wasn’t just inspiring; it was a roadmap. Brandie set a goal then and there to learn from the best in the business.
Antoinette eventually gave her a piece of advice that would become Brandie’s career North Star:
“She said once that the answer will always be NO until you ask.”
Today, that journey has come full circle. Brandie is no longer just in the audience; she is a grateful member of Antoinette’s team at Aveda Congress.

Ultimately, the most important phase of professional growth for hairstylists is the transition from student to mentor. Brandie now finds her daily inspiration in the “amazingly talented women” she meets across the Neill salon network.
Whether she’s teaching a class or working with a new stylist on the floor, she leads with the heart:
“I listen. I support. I challenge them to step outside of their knowledge and grow.”

For Brandie, mentorship is a legacy she’s building for the next generation—including her own daughters. She is living proof that with the right community behind you, “A dream is never too big.”
No one is self-made. This Mother’s Day, we honor the moms, the mentors, and the icons who have shaped our industry.
